Our Very Own Cinderella!

May 21, 2018

Were you one of the reported twenty-nine million Americans who watched the royal wedding? I was. Although I must admit that if I had been invited to attend in person, I would have arrived unstylishly late. It’s hard to pass up the opportunity to sleep-in when you can set your DVR and not miss a single moment!

There was a lot of analysis regarding almost every single iota of wedding detail: the beautiful bridal gown, the diamond tiara, the veil, etc. As for me, they could have passed over those items. The true appeal of this event is its Cinderella story! American girl Meghan Markle met her prince, fell in love, and together they are on the road to “happily-ever-after”. Isn’t that one of the many childhood dreams we as young girls fantasize about? And now, as a grown woman watching the event, it causes my mind to reflect on a romantic time in my own life, way before the mundane activities of loads of laundry, reheating leftover casseroles, and wiping children’s snotty noses!

I remember the first time I saw the young man that would become my future prince. I can still feel my heart skip a beat when I reflect on the first time our eyes met, and I will never forget the very happy expression on his face when he first saw me walking down the aisle on our wedding day. It is so very easy to become entrenched in day-to-day living with that special someone, with whom we share our life, that we often forget about those specific romantic moments and only focus on day-to-day routines without a smidgeon of time for romance. That really is so sad!

So now that I have deleted my DVR recording, I am back to the humdrum schedule of work, preparing meals, washing dishes, and folding laundry. Saturday morning was a wonderful escape from reality, but also a wake-up call to not let the days pass by without making a conscious effort to embrace the good, the love in this world, and celebrate it. My plan does not include a diamond tiara or fancy gown or a horse drawn carriage ride (which I have always wanted to do, but never have!) . . .What I do envision is challenging myself to be a more loving, caring individual each day. How about you? Will you join me? Together let’s all harness the energy of love and make this world a better place!
